As a new person going into radio's this has to be the most best guide I've found, you explain how to use, operate and set-up everything perfectly, the most useful person I've watched in a bit now
I have these radios and sometimes they wont TX when I hit the PTT, the ptt red light blinks then they power off . I have to turn the radio off then back on again, sometimes a few times before I can TX again....anyone run into this?
I acquired 4 of these models but mine say Pxton I'm guessing it's just a branding thing? Anyway I don't know anything about radios I didn't even know you could program them. I might use them around the house with my teen boys. Also as emergency backup communication. Unfortunately I don't have the time and money for a new hobby but I'm interested in knowing what I can do with the ones I have and what all I need. Like what's a FRS stations , repeaters?
The fixed antenna ones are legal PMR 446. The screw on antenna ones are fully programmable and 2 watts tx. These are still available on eBay, just look for the slender aerial.
I got two, working properly but some other people use the same and I here them in my radio. There is a school nearby and I here those askaris in my radio, what can I do?
Its good to see you buddy because my radio lots of voice that i heard. So the good thing is you share the software buddy. Thank so much and i will try asap and i will comeback to you what is the result.
Great radios. However I have 5 but two of them aren't as sensitive on receive as the other three. I wonder if it's the squelch setting but can't see how to adjust it via Chirp. Nice video. Thanks.
I'm new to this - I just purchased some BF-88A walkies thinking they would work with my current BF-888S walkies, however they do not. Can I program both of these to work or is there a different frequency on both?
Hello Anthony you just sold me on getting a set of these radio just ordered two of them for $21 bucks. will keep you updated on what i think. Fort mill sc.
I got the same exact ones except it is the Pxton brand. 3 out of 4 give a "change battery warning" as soon as I took them out of the box and charged them and don't work.
Hello sir, I Purchased one set (2 pcs.) Earlier of this model and i was using it and now i purchased one more set of 2 pcs. Of same model but even after keeping all 4 pcs frequencies same they all 4 are not receiving signal only two pcs. Which came along of their set are working
One set may have tones set up from the factory. Have you downloaded them to CHIRP software? You need to only set up in CHIRP and then upload to each radio.
Not bad for the price. I'm not sure if they are type accepted by the FCC for FRS/GMRS service but I haven't heard of anyone being penalized yet. BTW, check out a TYT TH-UV8000d handheld radio. It's relatively inexpensive ($70) but it can work as a cross-band repeater, 10 watts too. Very nice radio. Comes with 2 antennas and cable/software to program. I'll build a portable cross band repeater with this radio. It will be invaluable during SHTF. Place it on top of a hill or a mountain and you get a huge area covered and it doesn't cost $400.
I can't get my Midland GXT000 to work with my neighbor's BaoFeng BF 888S. We're on the same channel--and we tried several 1-22. I have no privacy codes set. Do the BF 888S radios come with or without the privacy codes?
I dont know itmf its accurate but I have several radios (midland, motorola and baofeng) and none connects. I looked online and most said only same brand can connect to each other. I dont know if you need to reprogram them. But Id rather buy same brand so I dont need to worry about that.
I don't understand. Do you have to program these radios don't they work right out of the box? Why program to get different frequencies for some reason?
@@cadenthesmasher4527I just got these from Amazon Too... I wonder if programming them maybe let's us use channels between the 16 main channels?? For better better privacy mebbie 🤔. Not sure, but that'd be pretty tits though.... I'll try messin around with 'em, worth a shot.
The BF88 is officially an FRS service radio. You can (unlawfully) hack the programming with CHIRP and change to GMRS, Some Ham bands, some air bands, possibly local PoPo or EMS, etc. Obviously don't key up on the fire department frequency, etc.
I purchased a set of 4 on amazon for $70, they work just fine other than sharing/having open frequencies out of the box. I’d like to know how to program them.
It's low power UHF, so it depends what's around your environment. If you're on a desert hilltop and your receiver is in the valley, you can get some fars. But if you're in the Eastern Woodlands in your car and the receiver is in his house, not as many fars.
What does having a local repeater help with? Also when you erase what’s in the radio & upload your own frequencies, does that make you channels private?
Most police have gone to Digital Radios in the 800-900MHz bands and are encrypted. Very few still broadcast in 2m and 70cm bands. Its also illegal to decrypt police traffic. You're better off using an online scanner if you can find one
These are great little radios. Dirt cheap too! Programmed them with FRS frequencies, except for the frequencies that have a transmit limit of .5 watts.
Check me if I'm wrong, but only FRS channels 8-14 are .5 watt limited. Channels 1-7, 15-22 are 2 watts, but they are also listed as repeater channels. Of course, there are those rules.

Great little radios, very popular, simple to use and a very good price right now too. Comms are vital
Just ordered a pair off Amazon, great upload.

To scan go to channel 16 without the cable push the ptt n monitor at same time then turn on the radio it should scan thu 15
If you had to screw the antenna on then they are an older model. The new ones are fixed, in the UK at any rate.
The fixed antenna ones are legal PMR 446. The screw on antenna ones are fully programmable and 2 watts tx. These are still available on eBay, just look for the slender aerial.
the UK models are BF88E not BF888S

You have to really press them down into the charger

do you have to program them or. are gmrs channels in there on default?
You have to program them. Steps shown at 6:40 in the video
FRS and GMRS do overlap, but the Boofwang doesn't have all GMRS by default

Why need programs for? I bought 4 to use at home all at the mall with my kid i don't know much about walkie talkie i just use for fun with my kid

Do you need a HAM radio license?
Nope
If you hack it to Ham or GMRS, yes. But it's like speeding or the self checkout at Walmart: you probably won't get caught.
